Sunbutter recipeWhat is Sunbutter?

Sunbutter is a delicious alternative to peanut butter. Packed with anti-inflammatory vitamin E and calming magnesium, it’s one of our favorite snacks at the clinic. Plus, it is so easy to make! Check out the process below.

Time: 10 minutes

Difficulty level: Easy

Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs sunflower seeds
  • Olive or avocado oil
  • Salt

Equipment:

  • Food processor
  • Spatula
  • Air tight jar
  • Oven and baking sheet (optional)

Instructions:

Pick up 2 pounds of sunflower seeds from the bulk section at your favorite grocery store. (Typically $3-4/lb) If they are not roasted, roast them! Just spread out the sunflower seeds on a baking sheet and bake at 450 degrees for 10-15 minutes, or until you can smell them.

Remove from oven and pour into food processor.

Turn processor on. As the seeds are churning, pour a thin drizzle of your preferred oil (we suggest olive or avocado) until the butter reaches your preferred texture. Add salt to taste.

Enjoy! Spread on your favorite fruit or vegetable: carrots, celery, apples, and bananas are great options.

Storage:

Store in an air-tight jar or Tupperware for an easy and pre-prepared snack for work or school.
