Enhance Your Wellbeing with Physical Therapy
Benefits of Physical Therapy
Physical therapy offers a wide range of benefits, including:
- Pain Management: PTs use various techniques to reduce pain, including therapeutic exercises, manual therapy, functional movement training, and dry needling.
- Improved Mobility and Movement: Physical therapy can help you regain lost range of motion, improve flexibility, and strengthen muscles, all of which can lead to better movement and coordination.
- Injury Recovery and Prevention: PT can be crucial for recovering from injuries and preventing future ones by teaching you proper body mechanics and exercises to strengthen vulnerable areas.
- Reduced Need for Medication: By effectively managing pain and improving function, physical therapy can help you decrease your reliance on pain medication.
- Avoiding Surgery: In some cases, physical therapy can be just as effective as surgery for certain conditions, saving you from unnecessary risks and recovery time.
- Improved Balance and Fall Prevention: PT can help improve your balance and coordination, which is especially important for reducing the risk of falls, particularly for older adults.
- Management of Chronic Conditions: Physical therapy can play a significant role in managing chronic conditions like arthritis, osteoporosis, and neurological disorders by helping to control pain, improve function, and maintain independence.
What to Expect During Physical Therapy
Your initial physical therapy appointment will typically involve a comprehensive evaluation, where Dr. Brown will discuss your medical history, symptoms, and goals. They will then perform a physical examination to assess your range of motion, strength, and coordination. Based on this evaluation, she will develop a personalized treatment plan that may include:
- Therapeutic Exercises and Activity: These exercises are designed to improve your strength, flexibility, stability, balance, and coordination.
- Manual Therapy: This type of treatment involves hands-on techniques such as massage, joint mobilization, and stretching to improve movement and reduce pain.
- Assistive Modalities: Comprehensive care plans may also include dry needling, E-Stimulation, chiropractic care, and more to help target pain, aid healing, and prevent future injuries.
- Patient Education: An important aspect of physical therapy is learning how to manage your condition on your own. Dr. Brown will educate you on proper body mechanics, posture, exercises you can do at home, and strategies to prevent future injuries.

Sarah is easy to talk to and that helped me relax. I was in pain from strained muscles from shoveling snow. Sarah understands how the body works, and helped me with physical therapy, giving me exercises to do at home. She is a great part of the team at Capital Chiropractic!
My PT, Sarah, is a miracle worker! To tell you the truth, I was a bit skeptical about the initial simple exercises she prescribed for my neck, shoulder and back pain. But after 3 weeks of intense pain that wouldn't subside, I was willing to give anything a shot. Within a few days of doing these exercises (I can't even call them exercises, they're so easy and not time consuming!), the pain was almost completely gone. Best of all, she listens and adjusts based on what my body is telling us. She treats me as an intelligent adult, explaining what she's doing and what she recommends and why. Now we're working on rebuilding my strength so the pain doesn't return.
